Glabrous annual up to 50 cm high. Leaves basal, subulate, up to 30 cm long, striate. Flowers in terminal racemes. Perianth segments pinkish or white, up to 10 mm long with a distinct brownish mid-vein. Anthers versatile, pitted where the filament is inserted. Fruit a capsule. Naturalized in Hunter River Valley and in a few places on the coast. Introd. from the Mediterranean. Fl. summer
