Heath-like shrubs. Leaves sessile or petiolate, articulate on the stem, sometimes embracing it above the base but not sheathing. Flowers solitary, axillary, on short pedicels or almost sessile. Bracts numerous, passing gradually into the sepals and forming an involucre around them. Corolla tube cylindrical or campanulate; the lobes imbricate but not contorted in the bud. Filaments short; anthers wholly or partially enclosed in the corolla tube. Ovary 5-locular; style inserted in a tubular depression in the ovary. Fruit a small capsule, loculicidally dehiscent. Seeds numerous.
