Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, flat or terete. Flowers on short pedicels in axillary clusters. Perianth white to cream or pink; tube almost straight; segments rolled back to one side, usually becoming free. Anthers sessile in the concave tips of the perianth segments. Ovary glabrous, usually stipitate. Style longer than the perianth, curved and protruding from a slit in the perianth before being released; pollen presenter flat or conical, expanded around the stigma. Fruit a woody follicle splitting to the base into two solid valves. Seeds 2, each with a broad wing on one edge.
