Nut 0.5–0.7 mm wide. Glumes shiny, 4–6-nerved either side of midvein. Spikelets mostly 3–6, rarely 1. Leaves with very short to 4 cm long, filiform laminas or reduced to sheaths. Tufted annual to 8 cm high. Coast. Damp places. Possibly introd. from S. Africa
