Tepals, culms and inflorescence branches finely scabrous. Culms, soft, 0.7–2 mm diam. Inflorescence diffuse, 4–12 cm long, flowers solitary or in loose clusters. Slender rhizomatous herb to 65 cm high. Lithgow, Mt Blaxland. Woodland and grassland. Seasonally damp places. May be introduced from western regions
