Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, margins entire. Flowers solitary or arranged in axillary clusters. Floral tube shortly continued above the ovary. Sepals 5. Petals 5, pink to red or white. Stamens numerous, arranged in a single whorl, shorter or scarcely longer than the petals. Ovary 3–12-locular with numerous ovules per loculus. Fruit a capsule.
