Culms usually 5–many-noded. Leaf blades long, ± flexuose, becoming inrolled-filiform; ligule of hairs up to 0.2 mm long. Tufted perennials up to 75 cm high. Panicle 5–15 cm long. Spikelets with 5–6 florets. Glumes 8–13 mm long. Coast and adjacent plateaus. Open forest on sandy soils. Fl. spring–summer
