Leaf blades 1–5 mm wide when expanded, firm, 10–30 cm long; ligule 0.5–2 mm long, truncate, finely laciniate to minutely ciliolate. Plants up to 120 cm high with glabrous nodes. Panicle up to 18 cm long. Spikelets with 2–7 florets. Widespread but mainly coast. Heath and DSF. Fl. early summer
