Leaf blades relatively rigid, green, 8–25 mm long, 1–4 mm wide; ligule 1 mm long, truncate. Rhizomes short and thick, with firm obtuse scales. Perennials up to 1 m high. Panicle 8–25 cm long. Spikelets with 3–6 florets, green or purplish. Widespread but mainly coast. DSF on Ss. Fl. early summer.
