Leaves mostly green to greyish-green or glaucous-green; blades inrolled-terete or angular-terete, up to 60 cm long, 0.2–0.7 mm wide; ligule 0.1–1 mm long, truncate, minutely ciliolate at the apex. Panicle 3–20 cm long, pyramidal at maturity; branches devoid of spikelets in the lower half. Spikelets compressed, often purplish or greenish rarely yellowish, with 2–7 florets. Widespread in a variety of communities. Fl. summer
