Perennials up to 70 cm high. Leaves basal, linear, flat, up to 60 cm long and 8 mm wide, glabrous with tubular membranous scales at the base. Flowers in racemes or panicles with membranous bracts. Perianth segments up to 14 mm long, white, with a green line, and a yellow spot near the base, free. Stamens 6, ± unequal. Style filiform; stigma capitate. Fruit a globular capsule, c. 6 mm diam. Coastal sand dunes, e.g. Wollongong. Introd. from S. Africa. Fl. summer
